Our Story
Started by two youth environmentalists in 2020, The Zero Initiative is an organization dedicated to the planet and the idea that anyone can save it. Our mission is to educate and inspire people of every age. We believe that people are the root of the problem and solution to the climate crisis. We want a more sustainable future that encompasses everyone and their uniqueness.

The Zero Waste Cafeteria Project
In the fall of 2017, the Zero Waste Cafeteria Project officially went into action. Inspired by Cafeteria Culture, our founders, Ella Comerford-Barnett and Sophie Raes, as well as their mentor, Kristina Hulvershorn, launched the Zero Waste Cafeteria Project at Rousseau McClellan in Indianapolis, Indiana. Since then, they have talked with other schools to try and expand their project.
